Write for us

Curious County Review welcomes pitches that help readers notice something new about county boundaries, place names, landscapes, local records or county history. We are looking for careful, readable ideas with a clear question at their centre, not a list of facts without a thread.

What makes a strong pitch

Offer a specific subject, explain the question the piece would answer and say why it matters to a curious general reader. A focused comparison, an explanation of a map feature, or a well-sourced account of how a county detail changed can all work. Keep the proposed angle distinct from material already covered, and explain what evidence or sources could support it.

Care with evidence

Contributions should separate what records show from what a writer infers. Identify uncertain claims, use sources that readers can assess and explain specialist terms in plain English. Do not present a disputed place-name origin or a historical interpretation as fact without adequate support. We do not accept pitches that require readers to act on professional or local legal advice.

Send a proposal

Send your pitch through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, the central question, a short outline and a note about likely sources. Please send a proposal rather than a finished unsolicited article; we will consider its fit and scope before discussing a full contribution.

Our point of view

A county is a story told in place

Maps, names and records offer different clues. Put them together and familiar ground starts to read differently.
